Oh when does a golf ball display case turn into a jewelry display?

A couple (or several) years ago I found this great case to display golf balls on a really spectacular discount at Michael's.   Was going to do a lot of things with it.   Display elephants, display quarter scale minis or figure out a way to get the shelves out and put in cup hooks and display jewelry.    That last idea won.    Well it was really a job getting the shelves out.   I thought they were just glued in but they were notched and fit into the sides.   Well, a little heating to loosen the glue, a little prying with a screw drive and I finally got one shelf out.    About an hour later I had all but one out and was ready to put in cup hooks.   

 

 

 

I am really pleased with the way it turned out.   The little round dipping areas that held the gold balls make a great place for ear rings.  

 

Now this doesn't handle all my jewelry so stay tuned for another idea for more storage.     

 

 

Fascinator Hats

 What is a fascinator Hat?  

A fascinator is a head piece, or style of millinery, commonly made with feathers, flowers, jewels or beads that attaches to the hair by a comb, headband or clip. The word originally referred to a head covering similar to a shawl made from wool or lace. The term had become virtually obsolete by the 1970s.   In the early part of the 21st century, “fascinators” started to make a comeback but the meaning had slightly changed.  The new definition refers to a head decoration that often accompanies mainly formal or party attire but is frequently seen these days paired with casual-wear as well.  A fascinator may be worn instead of a hat to occasions where hats were once traditionally worn, such as weddings; brides increasingly choose to wear them as an alternative to a conventional bridal veil, particularly if their gowns or outfits are less fussy or non-traditional.  As  an evening accessory it is sometimes referred to as a “cocktail hat”, even when it doesn’t fit the standard definition of a “hat”. Stylish and fun, a fascinator can be worn on the front, side or, to showcase an updo or chignon, the back of the head.

I had an opportunity to take Judi Bradford's class at The Studios of Key West yesterday and had a great fun making my own fascinator hat.

Trees from tags and other junk paper

Last year my good friend Michele made me a Christmas tree for a gift.  We had both seen a similar tree posted on a yahoo group.    She pursued it and I didn't.   I put that little tree on a shelf and looked at it every day.   I thought it needed partners.     It is SO Cute!

 

Here they are sitting on the shelf together along with a Santa that I made, on my sister gave me,  and a tree my mother bought me.

Great way to recycle all those little tags that come into your house each and every year.

All those little projects????

Do you have a list of  projects to do.   I know about the time I get one project done, I add a dozen more.   Here's some of my latest ones.

 

I bought this great table and chair set a few years ago. Got it dirt cheap at a yard sale  ($15).   It sat out and the weather (salt air) wasn't very good to it.     Was going to sell it but decided to spruce it up.  The first three pictures show it on the work bench.   I had to sand it down and use a wire brush to get all the yucky finish off.

 

 

 

 

I have some great plants that have yellow in them so I did the chair and table in yellow.   It makes a nice little vignette.   I'm glad I kept the pair.   So cute.   

 

 

 

I had these little blue shutters for a very long time.   I had about a million uses for them and none of them came to pass.   Put them out at a yard sale a time or two and they didn't sell.   Finally I decided what I wanted to do.   Make a shelf.

 

 

Got two brackets and some "L" shaped brackets.   Sanded them down to get the red to show more throught the blue paint.  

 

 Shuffled around a couple paintings to make room for the shelf.   Displayed a chime at one end that is made with all recycled parts. 

 

 

 

I'm so glad I didn't get rid of the shutters.   The shelf looks really good.  

 

 

 

 Years ago I got this great lamp at a yard sale for $10.    Used it for years and finally the shade shot craps and it didn't light too well and I was a bit afraid of getting shocked with it.   Thought about selling the container with shells but never got around to it.   One day I decided I would rather rewire it and add a new shade.

 

 

 

I'm so glad I didn't part with the container.   So glad to have this project completed.

New Month - New Color

I loved my red background but wow - I love this Pumpkin ish color.    Happy Thanksgiving.  

Mirror Mirror on the Wall - Mosaic

This is one of those projects that I've wanted to do for a long time.   My friend Michelle gave me the mirrors.   I purchased a 2 x 2 exterior grade plywood and had some scrape boards for the frame piece.  

 The above is scrape wood.  

 2 x 2 piece framed and spray painted with several coats of gloss black.

 Straight on view.   I love the black grout. 

 

Finished piece and ready to hang.  I did seal the grout.  I will hang it outside so I can see it from my kitchen window.

 

I would like to thank  Brenda Brink for her help in finding the correct grout.   She was featured in Cloth Paper Scissors Spring 2010 magazine Studios.   The piece on you,  Brenda,  was very inspirational.
